The following item appeared
in Column 8 of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper
in March of 1999:
When Sasha Abram, 18, of Double Bay, was taken to
St Vincents' Hospital after a car smash on Wednesday,
she found one of her nurses was Erica van Ash. Erica's
family is from Westerbork, Holland. During the war,
it was the site of a Nazi transit camp for Jews, but
many "righteous gentiles", including Erica's
grandparents, risked their lives to help the prisoners.
One they helped was Phillip Abram, Sasha's grandfather.
Years later, one granddaughter is caring for the other.
Wednesday would have been the late Phillip Abram's
birthday.
